Question

I am working as a postdoctoral researcher at an academic institution on H1B. My I94 will expire on Jan. 31st, 2021. I am planning to join a different academic institution on Jan. 25th and my new employer is currently preparing an H1B transfer/ extension petition for my new position. As Jan. 24th will be my last day at the current job, and the new employer has been very slow in completing different paperwork, I would appreciate it if you could kindly comment on the following issues: # if I can't start working for my new employer on Jan. 25th and have to wait till Jan. 31st or beyond (till they get the receipt notice from USCIS), will the gap in employment be an issue in the future. # I have the flexibility to stay with my current employer till Jan. 31st. If my new employer submits the petition around Jan. 22nd (with a Jan. 25th start date), can I continue to work with my current employer till Jan. 31st/ the new employer receives the notice from USCIS? Will my employment during the overlapping period of the two petitions (one starting on Jan. 25th and the other being valid till Jan. 31st) cause any issues down the line.
