H4 Visa holder trying to be a passive partner in a LLC
Hello: I am on H4 visa and would like to know if I can be a partner of an LLC. I know that I cannot work under any circumstances and clearly I have no involvement in the company except for investing initially so as to share profits at the end of the year. The business is IT consulting and the income may run into 6 digits if they do well. Is the legal to do being on H4? Will this be treated as passive income? Will this jeopardize my immigration status or our greencard processing through my husband? Company CPA said this is doable and the income will be reported as Schedule K-1.
