Q.

Continuous Residence

I have been a legal permanent resident (PR) of the United States for just over 5 years now (since 2004). I want to apply for citizenship, but the continuous residence requirement is the I spend 5 years as PR without leaving the US for trips of 6 months or longer.

In 2007, while still an undergraduate college student, I studied abroad and was outside the US for 7 months. My parents were still in the US and I was still enrolled at my US university.

2. Should I still apply? Do I have a case that I was still continuing to live, work and/or keep ties to the United States? How good of a case is it? What tends to happen in similar cases?

3. What documents should I provide with my application to prove that I was still connected to the US and therefore this trip should not disqualify me?
