L1A Visa to F1 to OPT

Hi,

I am currently on L1A visa which is expiring next month, Aug 20th 2011.
I am currently aspiring to do my MS upon which I think I can covert to F1 based on an I20.
I understand after 9 months of course in F1, students will be eligible to work parttime in OPT and subsequently extensible to 17 months as per STEM policy.

Will the same policy be applicable to me as well, as I have already spent 7 years in L1A.
I do understand, before applying for a fresh H1/L1A I will need to be out of the country for an year.
But, nevertheless, will I be able to work on OPT just as any other F1 status person is eligible?

Regards
Subhash
