Q.

J-2 visa Q regarding dependent.

I have a Chinese scholar staying with me for a year+. She has a J-1 visa, her 12 year old daughter has a J-2 visa. Scholar needs to return to China for 1.5 months between her two programs at UC Berkeley. She was told her daughter must also leave with her. She wants her daughter to stay in school. The daughter would not be able to attend school in China for that period. Is there any way around this legally?
