A new Visa Pilot Program has been proposed to simplify visa processing at U.S. consulates in 3 out of the 4 BRIC countries--Brazil, India & China. The program's goal is to increase tourism and business travel to the U.S. for individuals from these countries. Specific benchmarks for the program include:

* Increasing nonimmigrant visa processing capacity at U.S. conuslates in China and Brazil by 40% percent over the next year

* Ensure that 80% of nonimmigrant visa applicants are interviewed within 3 weeks of applying

We will see if this new program has any affect on visa processing out of U.S. Consulates in India.
