student visa help please
To whom ever it may concern, I'm trying to enrol in Farwell high school , Michigan. But have been experiencing some problems, I wish to stay with a certain family whom i am very close to, so I cannot go through an exchange program. I am not aware if the school has been approved by SEVIS and the school is telling me that they do not even know what an I-20 form is. I am very stuck and were it not for me being totally determined to go to this pacific school I would have given up at the first hurdle, but now I'm running out of things to try. The family that i am wishing to stay with has suggested that they could adopt/ take legal guardianship of me and I could enrol through school that way. Is this possible?
Any kind of information would me much obliged.
My regards Victoria Stewart

If the school doesn't even know what an I-20 is, then they probably are not authorized to accept foreign students! The reality is that many foreign "students" in the U.S. attend elementary, middle school and even high school without the school knowing that the students are not authorized to study there. It is better to look for a school that is aware of the situation and can issue a Form I-20. On the other hand, you may not be eligible to change status to F-1 student, depending upon your current immigration status and how long you have been in the United States.
Furthermore, the U.S. immigration laws regarding adoption require that a non-orphan be in the physical and legal custody of the U.S. citizen parents for two years before the adoption can result in any immigration benefits.
What immigration status do you have now, how long have you been here, what is your family situation? What are you long term plans in the United States?
There is more information needed to address your situation. |
