There could be a number of reasons why your case is still pending, including a pending security check or an issue with your personal documents. Once your case goes beyond the normal processing time, you can call the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) to inquire about your case. Likewise, if you are represented by an attorney, there are options for your attorney to inquire on your behalf.
If there is an issue with your documents, you will receive a request for evidence. If there is a security check pending, you will have to make an inquiry and remind them that your case has been pending for more than six months, so they should be able to adjudicate (and approve) your application without the security check result. |

You or the sponsor must call the National Customer Service Center (NCSC) and inquire about your I-485. Have the receipt number ready when you call. It is probably NOT a pending security check, but if it is, the USCIS has a memo stating that they will adjudicate any I-485 that has a security check pending for over six months. I don't think you have nothing to be nervous about, you just need to contact them to make sure the case is being process and is not lost.
By the way, I assume that you do not have a criminal record (this could delay things further of course). |
