Maintaining Permanent Resident Status
Hello,
I have recently received permanent resident status.
Now that I have the greencard, what I would like to do is set up my own company. I have a client in Switzerland who needs someone with my expertise to come in as a consultant. However, he will have to employ me in Switzerland.
I don't want working abroad to jeopardize my greencard status... How can I maintain my status while being able to work abroad?
I was looking at the USCIS site and they have a section on 'Maintaining Residence' but it is not really clear how the rules are applied, or if there are hard and fast rules. Can you advise me? Is there a way to work abroad without losing permanent resident status here in the US? What do I need to do specifically?

Make sure you do not stay outside the US for more than 6 months at a time. Or apply for a re-entry permit. |
