Leave of Absence (LOA) for extending valid H1-B status

Potential last date on July 21. H1-B expiry in Sept 2010. Not a contracting company.Advice on employee-requested "Unpaid" Personal LOA for few months and maintain H1-B status?
1. Are Payroll stubs to be generated during "unpaid" Personal LOA?
2. Is -US Travel with visiting parents or Take care of aging mother- a valid LOA reason?
3. Meanwhile if I find NEW employer during LOA, how do I prove employer-employee relationship during H1-B transfer ?
4. Minimum number of paystubs needed during transfer?
5. After LOA completion either a)Get severance check b)OR Request 1 paystub (instead of severance) c)OR Maybe get 2 paystubs by taking LOA right away and push out payment for July 21 pay period-UNLIKELY. Does a, b or c improve my situation? Advice on LOA option vs F1? Anything I missed?
