Job Change with Approved H-1 Petition, no visa

Hi,
I have an approved H-1 petition or I-797 which states that my petition and change of status has been approved as of Oct 1 2012 (L1 to H1)approved till Sept 2015. I did not go back to India to get a VISA yet. I am planning to change my job now. Do you think the petition with approved change of status is enough for me to change the job or is VISA a compulsion as well? My assumption is approved petition is sufficient. Please confirm!
