Conversion to H1B Visa

Hi Lawbench,

I was working in the US with L1B visa.My I-94 was expired on Aug 2 2011.
My employer applied for extension and the L1b extension was denied by USCIS.As my wife
is due for delivery and she is in 9 month and not fit to travel my employer is filing for visitor visa to USCIS on medical grounds.

Can I know whether it is possible to convert my visitor visa to H1b visa.I have my H1b papers approved. If it is possible can I know how long it will take to convert my visitor to H1b visa.If it is not possible to convert,do I need to go back to my country and go for stamping again.

Pls let me know if you need more information.

Thanks,
