Q.

regarding H1B

I am a postdoc and my present H1B is ending at the end of September. I have a new position (assistant professor) starting January 2012. Can I stay in the US from Oct to Dec if my new VISA application has been submitted before end of September. Is there any USCIS guideline/publication regarding this?
