I am on student visa (F1) and have my first 12 months of OPT valid until December 2009. I currently work full time for a consulting company using my OPT. My employer will sponsor my H1 visa in April 2009. the current project that I am working on, ends on August 9th 2009, and I would like to know what happens if my H1B petition is approved in the lottery but my employer decides to lay me off between August and October 2009. Will I be able to get the "just approved" H1 visa transferred to another employer without traveling outside USA? Do I have other options?

April 2009 - Employer sponsors H1 in premium processing
May 2009 - Petition approved by USCIS with COS effective Oct 1
August 2009 - Employer decides to lay me off
September 2009 - F1 OPT still valid
October 1st 2009 - ?
