Q.

work authorization after I-94 expiry during H-1B extension

My H-1B extension application (regular or non-premium) is currently being processed at Vermont center. My extension petition was filed in June 2010 and received a RFE which was replied back in early FEB 2011.I am waiting for a decision. My I-94 expired in SEP 2010 and I will be soon approaching 180 days since expiry. I am getting conflicting information on how long I can continue working afterI-94 expiry. I've heard from my employer it is 240 days but a few immigration forums suggested 180 days. Appreciate if you could please let me for how long I can continue working after I-94 expiry considering my extension application is still in process. Also if you could please let me know what my status would be after 180/240 days, i.e. if still a decision is not made on my case. Thanks in advance!
