Q.

H1B to F1 transition

I was laid off at client site on Oct 1 , 2010.
My H1B extension just got approved and it is valid till Oct 2011. Right now I am on leave and want to apply for COS to F1. Will my H1B approval get cancelled as soon as I file for F1? My employer will keep H1B approval till after I file my F1.
After I file F1, during the transition if I get another job can I still utilize my current H1B approval? If I file for new H1B will I be considered under quota and can I only start working after its approved? Can I withdraw my F1 application at all and when? If my F1 is denied, and my H1B approval is not yet cancelled by my employer , will I be still "in-status"?
