H4 to H1b- travel while application pending

I am currently on H4 (my wife on H1b ) valid till 2011. My change of status from H4 to H1B was filed under premium processing on April 22, 2010.

We received RFE on May 3, 2010 just pay stubs of my wife to prove my H4 status. I will send them by fedex on May 6, 2010 for USCIS to receive them on May 7, 2010.

I have to travel on May 13, 2010. My question:

1. Do I have to wait for actual physical receipt of H1B approval before travelling or Just check on USCIS website and if it says "Approved", its okay to travel.

2. Do you think I can get approved by May , 13, 2010.

It will cost me a lot to change my ticket !
