H1B questions

My husband is working for company X on H1-B and he could possibly be laid off in couple of weeks. My questions are:

1. Does he need to leave the country on his last working day? Can he stay for a couple of weeks to look for another job?

2. Will Company X cancel his H1-B visa on the last day of his job? Do companies report to USCIS regarding terminations or they don't? If we request the HR of company X to hold off on the cancellation of visa, will that work?

3. If he finds a job before getting laid off, will he be out of status during the H1-B visa transfer process?

4. If he finds a job after getting laid off, will he be out of status during the H1-B transfer process?
