Travel to home country on H4 when H1B application is pending

I am currently holding a H4 visa valid until Nov 2011. I had applied for H1B visa in Dec 09 and currently awaiting approval. Current status is documents received by USCIS on Mar 06 in response to RFE. I intend to travel to home country during May for personal reasons.
1. Will my travel to home country cause any issues on H1B approval?
2. If H1B visa gets approved before or during my stay in home country, I understand I have to get it stamped before I return to the United States. In such a case, will I have any issues during my H1B stamping?
3. If my H1 application is still pending at the time of travel back, will I be able to enter on H4 visa? Will it have any effect on the H1B application?
4. If H1B gets approved after travel back, what are the steps to be followed to start working?
