Q.

H1b and Layoffs

I entered USA on F1 visa. Got EAD for Optional Practical Training valid July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. Worked with present employer using this EAD from July to September,2009. From October, 2009 status changed to H1b worker with present employer only. Fearing being laid off. My questions:

1. If I am laid off, will I be out of status from date of being laid off or be in status based on future expiry date of my above EAD but which was used from July to September 2009? will I be in status on the basis of this EAD even if I do not find new employer for 2-3 months?

2. Any grace period to find new employer? What if it takes 2-3 months to find new employer? During this 2-3 months am I in status on the basis of my above said EAD?

3. Other options for me to be not out of status?
