Q.

H1B Expiration and Travel

My H1B is expiring on Sept 30 2010, My labor and I140 is approved. I will be filing for any extension on April 1st 2010.
I plan to go on a vacation to India in June for 3 weeks.
1) Should I wait for the extension to be approved before I travel. How much time does it normally take to get the extension approved.
2) Can I go out of the country and come back on my existing H1 while my application is in process, if yes then will it effect my Application? Are there any risks?
3) My family (H4) plans to stay till Aug Mid in India, what happens if I get the extension approval before Aug. Do they have to get the visa stamped before they come back or can they still travel on the existing H4 (valid until sept 30).
