On H1B being laid-off - Can I apply for Unemployment benefits?
Hi,
I just got laid-off and my H1B visa expires in 1 month (in April 2010).
- Can I apply for and receive unemployment benefits?
- Can I still receive unemployment benefits if I have to leave the country because my visa has expired?
- If I apply for a change of status to B1/B2 visa, can I still collect unemployment while looking for a new H1B sponsor?
- Can I apply for a change of visa from H1 to B1/B2 on my own, and how to do so, or do I need to hire a lawyer?
Thanks
