I need an clarification regarding change of status and visa transfer.

1. I was on L1 visa till Aug 2009. During this time, company - X has sponsored H1B - 2010 visa and i got the visa approval notice. On Aug 2009, I went back to india. On Nov 2009, I came to US on H4 Visa (Currently I m on H4 Visa).

2. Company - Y wants to offer me now. I need to transfer my H1B to the company Y. But, I have the visa approval from company X and I dont have H1B visa stamped on my passport.

3. As per my understanding to start working, I would need to do the change of status (H4 to H1) and visa transfer to company Y. Is that possible to transfer petition to the company Y without having H1B visa stamped on my passport?

Please clarify on this.
