Q.

Change of status (COS) from L1B to H1B while in US

Dear Sir,
I am working for Comp A on L1B visa and have valid I94. I am in US since Jan 09. I have applied for New H1B visa in Apr 09 through Comp B without COS and my H1B petition is approved from Oct 09 till Sept 12.I have following query
1. While applying for my H1B petition, comp B didnt apply for change of status(COS). Can I apply for COS while staying here in US or is it mandatory to go to my base country for COS from L1B to H1B?
2. What is the process for applying COS(L1B to H1B) while staying in US? Is there premium processing option for COS?
3. How long does it take to get it COS approved and are there any risks involved? Can there be any queries and what kinds of queries?
4. Is it possible for me to join and start working with Comp B when my COS is pending with USCIS? Thanks.
