Q.

L2 to H4 status

I was on L1 and my family was on L2 The validity was till december 2010.

Mean while I got interested in H1 B visa.
My sponsor did that as L1 to H1 change of status effective from 10/01/2009. But did not do L2 to H4 for my family.

As of today my family is OUT of STATUS.
They are planning to leave the USA.
By what time they should leave USA without getting into legal issues?
During departure at the airport will they face any issues? What documents should I prepare so that my family leaves USA gracefully?
If my family plans to get H4 visa stamping in India, will there be any issues because of this OUT OF STATUS period in USA
Any guidance and suggestions will be highly appreciable

Thanks
