Q.

H1 6 year quota resets if I spend 1 year outside us?

I have a question regarding H1 6 yr quota. Here is my stay in US -

Trip 1 - 02/26/2005 - 12/10/2005 (Fresh H1)
Trip 2 - 04/20/2007 - 09/28/2008 (Extn of same H1)
Trip 3 - 02/27/2010 - 04/29/2011 (Extn of same H1)
Trip 4 - 05/16/2011 - Till date (Extn of same H1)

This total out to be close to 5 years. I stayed out of US for more than one year after Trip 1 and Trip 2. As per my understanding, the 6 year quota restarts if I spend 1 year outside US and hence I should start counting the fresh 6 year quota with the start date of Trip 3. Could you please confirm if my understanding is correct? Please note that I am extending same H1 visa for all my trips.

Thanks
Ganesh
