H1B Expiring on Jan 19 2011.Travelling to India on Oct 8 2010

My H1B visa is expiring on Jan 19 2011.
I need to travel to India on Oct 8 2010 and come back on Oct 26 2010.
I have visa stamped on the passport untill Jan 19 2011.
company attorney advised that they will file for H1B extension once I come back
My queries

is it safe to travel with 3 months left on the visa stamp on passport?
my LCA for GC is approved and I 140 will be submitted soon(this month).Does this affect my travel at all?
Will the officer at the port of entry question me for having so little time left on H1B.
(I will not have any proof to show to the officer that the company indeed will file for an extension now that I am back in US).
I will carry letter from my manager though. Will that help in convincing the officer that extension will be filed?

kindly advice
