L1B change to Marriage based Green card question

I am in the US on an L1-B Visa, my wife is a US Citizen and we got married 6 years ago. We were both living in the UK until 2 years ago and have filed a joint US tax return for the last two years both show income a lot higher than the required amount for sponsorship. My wife does not work and did not earn enough in the UK to reach the threshold earnings to require her to file US taxes.
I know we can use our combined income to enable my wife to sponsor me, but what do we do about the 3rd year that we do not have any US Tax Return? Do I explain the tax codes and amounts that show she and I, did not need to file? In which case do we need some other supporting evidence of this, and of my non-us based income for the year? On the I864 do I put 0 for that year and check we have filed?
