Q.

Laid-off but I-485 is pending

I have I-130 approved under family base and my priority date is current.
Now I stay in US legally in H1B status and filed I-485 (H-1b) but have not received any filing receipt yet. Today my boss talked with me that I can only work until early November due to some reasons.

(1)In this situation, can I still stay in USA legally if I get my I-485 filing receipt but my case is still pending? Some of my friends told me as long as I get the receipt then I will be fine to stay legally. I don’t really want to risk myself to become illegal residence in US so please tell me more accurate answer or your advice.

(2)One more question to ask. How long can I still stay in US legally after laid-off and losing H-1B status if we just ignore any I-485 existing?
