Q.

How long can GC holder stay outside USA

Hello,
My dad got his green card in may 2005 through me. He stayed here in the US for 4 years with just one visit to India for 2-3 months. But now he is in India since May 2009. How long can he stay outside USA. Does he have to come here before 6 months or Can he stay over 6 months but less than 1year before having to get re-entry permit.
