Q.

h1-b to f-1

I am currently on H1-B and am working full-time. I applied for my COS and USCIS received the documents on 6/15/09. My I-20 start date is 8/11/09.
I plan to be employed till 7/31/09. And take 5-10 days to move to my new school.
1). Am I allowed to be in "pending" status between 7/31/09 and 8/11/09. (Assuming approval has not arrived).
2). If I do not receive my approval by 8/11/09, am I allowed to start classes on 8/11/09 under any conditions?
3). If not allowed to start classes, then what options do I have? Would it be possible to remain in the country waiting for the approval while unemployed and not on F-1, assuming approval comes in Sept.
4. If for some reason in #3 I can wait for approval, but the college doesn't let me start the semester, is going home the only option?
