Swithcing employers on OPT with h-1b petition pending

I am currently in the U.S. on OPT. My employer has filed for an H-1B visa on my behalf for which an RFE was received from the CIS. I am now afraid I may not get the h-1b through my current employer. My OPT expires on July4th. If my h-1b application through my current employer is denied, can i look for a new employer that will sponsor a different petition for h-1b? And, if so, how long do I have to find a new job? Can another employer make a new petition for an h-1b visa during the 60 day grace period (between july 4th and september 4th)?
