Filing for OPT with pending H-1B application

Hello Dimitar,
I am dental student currently on F-1 visa and graduating soon in May.
I recently received a job offer from a practice that has already applied for my H-1B in early April this year. However, given uncertaintly regarding the H1-B visa approval process, i am also considering filing for my OPT.
Questions:
1) If i file for my OPT in the next few days, which application will be considered by the USCIS? will they consider both or will they consider my OPT appln and reject my H-1B appln?

2) Given that the H-1B approval decision happens sometime in August, is it possible to get OPT approval first and then get H-1B. That would be the ideal scenario for me because i would have at least one work authorization in hand if my H-1B is not approved.

Thank you for your insights,
