Am I eligibel to apply for Educational Credit (Tax Returns)
I am an international student graduated from a university in Texas (MS: 2008-2010).I never had SSN in MS so did not work and also did not file any tax returns, but in my OPT period I got my SSN. Right now my visa status is F1 and I am in OPT working for a company.
Recently ,I got to know that for the year of 2009 who ever has paid their school fee more than 4000$ are eligible for applying for tax returns of $1000(THE AMERICAN OPPORTUNITY TAX CREDIT PART OF THE RECOVERY ACT FOR 2009). Many are filing this tax returns form Pronto Tax Services in SJ CA. I also heard from others that applying for this kind of tax returns may end up leaving queries while processing H1B visa and GC.
1)Am I eligible for this tax returns.
2)Will this affect approving my H1B visa and stamping or Green card?
