F1 Visa fulltime requirement & pre-OPT

Joined masters in Sprg10 as fulltime on H4, changed from H4 to F1 in July10. Fall10 fulltime on F1.I have 5 courses left for masters completion(F1 visa exp:may 12 2012)
For Spring11 Univ offers less courses and i can only take 6 credit hrs(9-fulltime), after discussing with DeptHead and DSO, they said they will make a case and make sure that i will be shown as fulltime even if i take 6credits. When i asked DSO if the SEVIS would be updated with that info, she said, SEVIS need not be updated, is that correct? will i be out of status if taken 6credits?
i would like to apply for pre-OPT starting Fall11, will i be eligible for that? i think the req is 1yr fulltime, so will i be considered as fulltime for my pre-OPT approval?
Can i take 6crds again in Fall11 also and maintain my F1 status?
