Background: I am currently on an H4 visa which is valid till June 2012. I am planning to change status to an F1 visa by making an appointment at the US embassy in New Delhi (in my home country India).

Question: Is it possible to withdraw visa application in case the consular officer does not approve my F1 visa right away i.e. puts my case for administrative processing (which takes 4-6 weeks)?

If yes, then will I still be able to come back to the US on my current H4 visa? My concern is whether the very act of applying for an F1 visa renders my current H4 visa invalid or not.
