Work permit with GreenCard Approval Notice

Hi,I got a scanned copy of my GC approval notice from my husband's attorney on 7th April, 09 and I am waiting for the original document by mail. I need to start work from 13th April and was wondering if it was possible to start work with the approval notice itself or if I have to wait until my GC card turned up. The attorney said in order to start working with the approval notice I had to get an InfoPass appointment to have an I-551 stamp placed on my passport which can serve as a valid evidence of my permanent resident status.Incase I got the I-551 stamping done how long is it valid for and can I work on this until I get my GC or would I need to periodically get this stamping done until the GC card arrives. Can i attend the appointment with the scanned copy or do I need the original doc.
