AOS interview postponement

Hi,

Our(My wife and I..I am the primary applicant) EB2 AOS application was transferred to NBC and then came to my local USCIS office for further processing. We have been called for Interview on March 18th together and my wife has to travel to her home country(got the tickets)on March 15th as her father is seriously ill..Her father's open-heart surgery is on March 18th. In this case, how do we reschedule the appointment? Do we have to send a certified mail to USCIS explaining our situation? If yes, should we send the request letter to National Benefits center(NBC) or local USCIS office? We are also trying to get an Infopass appointment to explain our situation directly to the IO. (Note: we could not get a letter from the surgeon as he is out of country at the moment)..Please advise.
