My name is Vignesh Danabalan and I am of Indian Nationality. I have a Master’s Degree from USA, and I have been working as a Product Development Engineer with an esteemed organization, in the same field as my graduate studies for the last 3+ years on H1B visa. I also have 2 years of prior relevant work experience from India. I am in the process of applying for my Green Card and I would like your expert opinion on the following:

I am likely to get a couple of promotions and become a Project Leader by the time my Green card is approved (5-6 years from now). Am I under any obligation to apply for the position that I would be 5-6 years from now, or can I just apply for my current position without this being any "hindrance to my promotions"?
