Q.

On H1B extension and Perm, transferable?

My H1B expired 05/15/09 and now I’m on my first year extension until 12/02/10 because my Perm is still stuck (PD 07/24/08, audited and replied 05/19/09).

Can I take an offer of employment at another firm? I mean, at this point, would still be possible to transfer H1B (expired, on extension) to another company?

If yes, would the new firm have to sponsor me a new Perm right away (I’m assuming the existing Perm application from the old firm will be instantly dropped)?

In terms of Perm, would there be a problem if the my new functions at the new firm (different industry) were somewhat diffterent from my current functions (similar skills though)? I’m asking this because I have two potential offers, one coming from the same industry and the other from a different industry.
