Q.

Status of EAD Vs H1B & future issues

Co A filed my I140& I485 in Jul07. Left Co A and joined Co B in Feb08 on my H1B. I140 was approved in June09 and received EAD (me & my wife). Wife on H4 currently. 4 years on H1B. I94 expired 2 yrs ago. Not planning to maintain my H1B hence forth.
Q:
1) If I get into a contracting job on my EAD, will I be "out of status" for not maintaining my H1B? Are there any immediate consequences?
2) My salary will be much higher than that mentioned in the PERM but the job desciption remains the same. Will that be an issue?
3) We are planning to visit India for a month with our new-born in Feb-Mar 10 on AP. Is it mandatory for me to have a job when we return? My contract may end just before I leave.
4) Will "not maintaining my H1B" result in rejection/issues of my I485 in future?
