Visitor Visa Extension

My parents have multiple entry visitor visa for US. They are visiting me this summer for 4 to 5 months. How can I get them to stay beyond 6 months(my assumption is they will be given 6 months permit at the port of entry).I want them to extend the trip because I'm moving back to my home country by end of Q1 2011 and it will be a big help for me in moving.
1: When they are in US and have stayed with me for about 4 months, can I ask them to visit my uncle in Canada for 4 to 5 weeks (or more) and then come back to US? Will this arrangement allow them to get a new I-94 and stay for another 5 to 6 months with me in US? How much time do they need to spend outside US to get a new I-94?
2: Do they have to go back to their home county? If so how soon can they come back?
